Campbell Hill native was a real-life NCIS
Wild, action-packed scenes like climbing a rope ladder on the side of a ship with a briefcase in one hand; skimming the treetops above a tropical paradise in a military helicopter and coming face-to-face with revolutionaries during the rise of Fidel Castro may seem like fodder for action movies and television shows, but it was real life for one area native.
Larry Thies, who now lives in California, grew up in Campbell Hill and graduated from Trico High School in 1952.
He attended SIU for a time before entering the U.S. Marines in 1954. It was through this service that his world would become much larger.
