Local elections were held Tuesday

Turnout was extremely light for the most part in Tuesday’s municipal elections, with only 11 percent of eligible voters going to the polls in Randolph County.
Still, there will be some new faces in local governments, and some incumbents retained their positions.
Along with that, voters in Percy and Steeleville decided to form a new sanitary sewer district.
The village of Steeleville will have a new mayor starting next month, as Andy Gerlach, who is a current member of the town board, defeated Mayor Bob Sutton. Gerlach received 537 votes to Sutton’s 55.
“I want to thank the voters of Steeleville for their support,” Gerlach said Wednesday. “I was pleasantly surprised with that many people voting. I look forward to the next four years.”
