Marissa has a new police chief.
At its meeting Monday night, the village board unanimously passed a motion naming Darrin Root to the position.
Mayor Chad Easton noted that Root has served as a member of Marissa’s police department for many years and believes he has some great ideas on how to keep the department strong.
Easton also thanked the police department and other community members who have come together during the difficult time surrounding the illness and death of Police Chief Tom Prather, who died January 10.
